Forest Lake College

Our educational philosophy

Forest Lake College provides a seamless curriculum, from Prep to Year 12.

In the early years, our children learn though play, investigating, exploring and presenting their ideas. The primary school programs are based on the eight Key Learning Areas (English, Mathematics, Science, Studies Of Society & Environment, Technology, Visual Arts, LOTE and Health & Physical Education), with particular emphasis on literacy and numeracy. The broad liberal education of the middle and senior school years and the provision of appropriate pathways toward tertiary study or the workplace in the senior school, form the basis of the curriculum.

Our curriculum is based on the National Goals for Schooling in the 21st Century and is appropriate to a modern, technological and culturally diverse society. We use flexible structures to address diverse education needs and learning styles where required in order to provide the best educational outcomes for our young people.

The value we place on education as a part of a sustaining and life giving Christian community significantly underpins the daily work of the school and the development of the curriculum. In an era of rapid and complex societal change and pervasive media and peer influence, the Colleges care for and nurture self esteem, encourage self reflection and develop compassion, respect, and tolerance as a foundation on which children may build their lives.

We also welcome opportunities to engage with international students and what an important impact this interaction can have on learning for domestic students. Developing student’s awareness of cultural diversity, global issues and opportunities is an important foundation for young people’s active participation in society.
