A COMMITMENT TO PRIVACY from EDUCANG Ltd
The EDUCANG Colleges are owned by EDUCANG Limited, a partnership of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod and the Anglican Church of Australia, Brisbane Diocese. The Colleges include Forest Lake College, The Springfield College, The Lakes College, Forest Lake International College and Mary McConnel School.
EDUCANG Ltd is an organisation required to comply with the National Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (Cth) which are designed to protect personal information. In particular, the Privacy legislation details National Privacy Principles (NPP’s) which impose obligations in relation to the collection, holding, use, access, correction, disclosure and transfer of personal information.
All of EDUCANG Ltd’s information handling practices (including information collected, transferred and stored electronically) have been reviewed to ensure that they reflect the National Privacy Principles. The following statement of information handling practices summarizes in the manner in which personal information is handled at EDUCANG Ltd.
COLLECTION
EDUCANG Ltd collects and holds personal information necessary for its functions and activities such as information about:

students and parents and/or guardians before, during and after the course of a student’s enrolment;

volunteers, staff members, job applicants and contractors;

other people who come in contact with EDUCANG Ltd.
USE
EDUCANG Ltd will use the personal information it collects for the primary purpose of collection and for such other secondary purposes that are related to the primary purpose of collection and reasonably expected, or to which consent has been given.
The primary purpose for which EDUCANG Ltd uses personal information about students and parents is to provide schooling for the student. This includes:
satisfying the legal obligations of EDUCANG Ltd and allowing it to discharge its duty of care;

looking after the student’s educational, social, spiritual and medical well-being;

day-to-day administration;

keeping parents informed about matters related to their child’s schooling through progress reports, correspondence, newsletters and magazines; and

supporting and marketing the Colleges and related entities.
DISCLOSURE
Without consent, personal information may only be disclosed for the primary purpose for which it was collected or a directly related secondary purpose.
Personal information may be disclosed to approved third parties but will not be sold to anyone or any organisation. EDUCANG Ltd will take all reasonable steps to ensure that approved third parties handle information in accordance with the National Privacy Principles.
Approved third parties include but are not limited to related entities of the P & F Associations of the Colleges and the Forest Lake College Foundation and outside service providers such as camp operators, approved sporting associations, credit collection agencies and printers.
VOLUNTARY PROVISION OF INFORMATION
The provision of personal information is voluntary, but in some cases if information as requested is not obtained, the Colleges or entities may not be able to enroll or continue the enrolment of a student.
DATA QUALITY
EDUCANG Ltd will take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is accurate, complete and current.
DATA SECURITY
EDUCANG Ltd will take all reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, modification or disclosure and will destroy information once it is no longer required.
ACCESS AND CORRECTION
Students and parents have a right to access personal information held about them by EDUCANG Ltd and to request that information is corrected so that it is accurate and complete.
